Walter Hewey

Brief History

Walter Huey, a Havana breeder, created the Satin which was a mutation in a fur gene. The sheen or shine was caused by a recessive gene. When Huey first showed is Havanas with the sheen many breeders protested. The Havana Club finally add a Satin Havana variety. In 1942 the Havana Club voted to sponsor the Satin as a new breed.
