Rabbit Breeds

One of the goals of our website is to be a source of as much information about rabbits as we can provide. Our site has become amazingly popular. We are always looking for ways to improve the site and provide information that people are looking for when it comes to rabbits. We are very excited about our newest section.

We have been rolling this section out slowly, but now have a link to it on our main page. This is the rabbit breeds section. As far as we know we are the only site on the internet that is providing information on domestic and wild breeds. (I realize that some of the wild rabbits are actually hares, but many people do not distinguish between the two.) In addition there are many domesticated rabbit breeds not recognized here in the United States. So we have included three sections.

The first section of rabbit breeds are the domestic rabbit breeds recognized by the ARBA. Currently there are 47 breeds in this category. We include some general information and also information specific to those that show in the ARBA circuit. We’ve include some interesting facts about each breed such as history and breed slogan.

The second section is our foreign national recognized rabbit breeds. We will touch on any that we can find. So far we have identified 24 breeds in the British Rabbit Council and 1 in the Rabbit Council of New Zealand that are not part of other National rabbit breed associations. This section will be the last we complete as there is a much larger need for research that must take place.

The third and final rabbit breed section will be wild rabbit / hare breeds. We will highlight their territory, habitat and diet. This section will hopefully include pictures and maps. We have been working on this section. So far we have identified 27 wild rabbit breeds.

This will bring to a total of just over 100 breeds of rabbits that can be researched from our website. I hope you find the section interesting. You can visit this new section here: Rabbit Breeds. Below is a list of all the breeds in the project:
