Web Site News

Your probably going to want to shut down about half way through this article, but pleas take time to read all the way through it!

Last week I was doing some reading, and found out that many of the search engines penalize the ranking of your site for things such as WebRings. Although webrings was important to us in the beginnning of our website, I have found now that it brings a very minute piece of our web traffic. In fact, less than 1% of our entire traffic comes from any of our 20 web rings. So I removed the code.

Needless to say that triggered an avalanche of emails from the WebRing system letting us know that we didn’t have valid code on our site any more.  In fact we get those emails every day now. But what was bad for WebRing was good for our site. We immediately jumped to #1 on Google for the term “holland lops”. Over the last week we have fluctuated between 1 – 3. For those that don’t know what that means, basically if someone goes to Google.com and types in “holland lops” we are on of the first ones to appear in the list.

What I found more exciting was when I visited Alexa.com. They specialize in ranking web sites purely by the amount of traffic they receive. Now this may not be impressive to you, but we rank 47,114 in all web sites visited in the United States. I know, whoppdee doo!

Whats most impressive though is in rabbit related websites we rank number 2! Now thats a big deal. The only rabbit related site receiving more traffic than ours is that blasted House Rabbit Society site.

Although our site has come a long ways, and the amount of information on the site has grown substantially, it still has a long ways to go. There is so much more that I would like to see on the site.  In fact, I often see information on the web that is very helpful to our site. If you read our blog yesterday, you will have noticed an article from another author. I’d love to see more of that.

Many people feel uncomfortable about writing, but really have many great things that they can contribute to the rabbit community. If there’s something that you feel is missing on our site, feel free to send us an email. Better yet, share your knowledge with other breeders, and we’ll put your article on our site, and give a promotion for yours! Hope to hear from you soon!
